The Ramsey County Historical Society’s user-friendly Research Center hosts a non-circulating collection documenting the history of Ramsey County and St. Paul.
The RCHS Research Center will be CLOSED:

Research Center Services & Fees
Ramsey County Historical Society invites you to do your own research at the Ramsey County Historical Society Research Center. No food or drink is allowed in the Research Center. Ink pens and markers are not allowed in the Research Center.
Fees for research by Ramsey County Historical Society staff
First 15 minutes FREE.
Each additional half hour (non-member) = $20.00
Each additional half hour (Ramsey County Historical Society member) = $15.00
A minimum of a half hour is charged. Please indicate the maximum amount of time we should spend on your research request. By placing this order, you authorize us to increase your order total for the amount of time we spend, up to the maximum amount you authorized.
8 1/2″ x 11″, 8 1/2″ x 14″ and 11″ x 17″ = $0.30 per page.
Historic Site Survey = $2.00. Includes both sides.
Building Permit index cards = $3.00 per location. Includes both sides and all pertaining cards.
Building Permit = $12.50 for each permit copy.
Charge for faxing material to a researcher is $4.00 per order plus the per page cost for making the copies that have to be prepared to facilitate faxing.
The Ramsey County Historical Society limits photocopying to a maximum of 25 pages per person per day, dependent on staff availability to do the copying.
No photocopies or digital scans of plat maps are allowed.
Ramsey County Historical Society reserves the right to decline to reproduce fragile items.
Digital Imaging Services
All files are created using a flatbed scanner. All scans will be emailed as a .jpg (JPEG – Joint Photographic Experts Group), which can be opened by most operating systems.
150 dpi, low resolution scans, emailed as a .jpg file
(web display, power point, school reports, photocopies, reproduction, etc.)

300 dpi, medium resolution scans, emailed as a .jpg file
(desktop publishing, newsprint, reports, etc.)
600 dpi, high resolution scans emailed as a .jpg file
(publishing, books, advertisings, etc.)
Note: Possession of Ramsey County Historical Society images does not give permission for using it.
To request permission to use an image in display, advertising, broadcast, or to reproduce it in a print project, you must fill out a request form and pay the appropriate fee, as described under “Use Fees” below.
St. Paul Building Permits 1883-1975
There is a preservation fee of $12.50 for each permit copy you request.
The charge for a Building Permit Index Card is $3.00 per location (up to 6 pages), which includes both sides and all pertaining cards. Permit copy orders will be mailed within two weeks of your request receipt.
