RCHS Brings General Sanborn’s
Speeches and Addresses
Back into Print

Between 1869 and 1887, General John B. Sanborn (1826–1904) published ten speeches and addresses that ranged from the genealogy of the Sanborn family to his service in the Civil War to his efforts after the war to establish peace between the federal government and a number of Indian tribes of the Great Plains. Born and educated as a lawyer in New Hampshire, Sanborn came to St. Paul in 1854. Read More

Book Launch at Metropolitan State University

A book-length biography of the late Senate Majority Leader Nick Coleman was published by Ramsey County Historical Society (RCHS) this sprint by member/author John Watson Milton. The book, For the Good of the Order: Nick Coleman and the High Tide of Liberal Politics in Minnesota, 1971–1981, includes a Foreword by former Vice President Walter Mondale. Below are photographs taken at the book's launch at Metropolitan State University on May 7, 2012.

Ramsey County History:

The award winning quarterly magazine published by the Ramsey County Historical Society, is filled with wonderful stories, photos and maps reflecting our lives and culture.
For people interested in the history of St. Paul and Ramsey County, this magazine is essential.

In 1964, Ramsey County History began a distinguished tradition of assembling original,  information on engaging stories that might otherwise be lost to time. The magazine offers readable, non-academic local history focusing as much on the ordinary person as on the extraordinary. The Society also publishes books, several of which have won awards.

The best and most cost effective way to get Ramsey County History is to become a member of the Ramsey County Historical Society. The magazine is a benefit of membership along with free admission to the Gibbs Museum.
