 DAKOTA OUTREACH

 The Gibbs Museum of Pioneer and Dakotah Life offers tours of both the traditional life of the Dakota and their Euro-American neighbor as well as outreach programs to local schools.

The Daily Life of the Dakota
Costumed presenters bring the past into your classroom.
 Students experience the traditional life of the Dakota through classroom discussions and hands-on activities. Use of replica artifacts, storytelling and interactive activities will inspire your students to delve into Native American culture. The two hour presentation is a exciting experience for students and staff.

 

Throughout the presentation your students are given background information on:
Traditional dwellings
Types of tools used
Native foods
How the Louisiana Purchase, fur trade and other settlement of the region affected the life of the original people of Minnesota.
Objects in the presentation include:
Replicas of clothing,
Fire-making tools,
Bone sewing kits,
Furs,
Decorated rawhide containers and more.
 
Time Allowance: 2 hours per presentation
Grade Level: 3rd-8th grade
Group Size:  1 class a presentation is preferable.
A presentation with 2 classes can be done at the teachers’ request.
 Cost: $125 per class of 30 students
